How to Find a Therapist in Ridgewood, NJ

There is so much beauty in Ridgewood, NJ!  You can get great food, visit some great shops and walk around in beautiful scenery.  There are plenty of quiet places to relax, but can also enjoy time in the center of town with more hustle and bustle!  Ridgewood, NJ has it all.

You have finally made the decision to look for a therapist to work with.  However, when you search for someone in the Ridgewood, NJ area you find that there are so many options that you do not know where to start.  Well, I am going to let you in on some of the tips I give to my own family, friends and colleagues on how to find the right therapist for you!

Top 5 Tips

  1. Identify the top area that you are looking to improve in your life.  Is it getting rid of you anxiety and depression? Maybe you want to cut back on the amount that you are drinking?  Perhaps you are just overwhelmed trying to juggle it all? This will help you tremendously when narrowing down who to call to schedule an appointment

  2. Another tip is to identify if you would prefer to work with a male or female therapist.  If it doesn’t matter then that will give you more options, but narrowing it down can help you focus your search more

  3. Be prepared to spend 45-50 minutes with your therapist each week.  This time is for YOU! Make sure it is in a location that you can get to each week.  Perhaps that means looking for someone close to work or close to home to make scheduling easier

  4. A google search of the area is a good place to start. Websites like Psychology Today will list therapists in the area.  You can refine your search by gender, speciality, insurance, language and so much more.

  5. Start checking the websites of the therapists that interest you and book a brief phone consultation (which is usually free).  Make a list of some questions that you want to ask your therapist. Are you looking for someone who is dynamic, supportive, quiet or perhaps someone who is going to push you outside of your comfort zone?
